OU Softball's 71 Game Win Streak Snapped by Louisiana

The Oklahoma Sooners 71 game win streak is over. The Sooners fell 7-5 in extra innings to Louisiana at Love's Field.

The Sooners seemed off from the get go. Jourdyn Campbell hit an early home run in the second to take the lead. The Ragin' Cajuns add a pair of runs before Kenzie Hansen hit a home run in the fourth to make it 3-2.

OU trailed by two runs headed into the seventh. Tiare Jennings singles to right center to pull OU within a run. Then down to their final out, Riley Ludlam hit a bloop that dropped and Maya Bland hustled around to score on a wild throw. That sent the game to extra innings.

The Sooners struggled in the eighth with a pair of errors. They finished with three for the game. That led to the Cajuns taking the lead 5-4. Then Sam Roe really put it to Oklahoma singling through the left side driving in two runs. Louisiana led 7-4 after the top of the eighth.

OU tried to crawl back into it in the bottom of the eighth as Cydney Sanders hit a solo home run to pull the Sooners within two. But Jayda Coleman couldn't make more magic happen as she struck out to end the game.

Kelly Maxwell pitched 3.2 innings for the Sooners giving up five hits and three earned runs. Karlie Keeney was saddled with the loss. She pitched 4.1 innings, gave up five hits and just one earned run.

Louisiana was paced by Chloe Riassetto who threw 136 pitches in a complete game win.

It's Oklahoma's first loss in more than a calendar year. The last coming in February of 2023 when they lost to Baylor 4-3.

It's Oklahoma's first true loss at home since 2020 when they were beaten by North Texas.

OU looks to bounce back Wednesday when Texas A&M-Commerce comes to Love's Field.
