Struggling homeowners affected by COVID-19 can get up to $35K in assistance

Oklahoma homeowners financially affected by COVID-19 can receive up to $35,000 in grants per household.

OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) — Oklahoma homeowners financially affected by COVID-19 can receive up to $35,000 in grants per household.

Holley Mangham with the Oklahoma Housing Finance Agency says there are several valid reasons why people should still apply for the Oklahoma Homeowner Assistance Fund.

"Maybe they lost their job as a result of the pandemic, or maybe their employer closed, or maybe they had to care for a loved one who was sick," said Mangham.

Mangham said applications have been opened since January 2022 and will close for good on March 20.

"We're going to run out of funds,” said Mangham. "We're really striving to assist as many families as possible, as many homeowners who may have been impacted by the effects of COVID-19.”

So far, the agency has helped more than 3,000 households across the state.

"These are in 68 of Oklahoma's 77 counties," said Mangham. "Last year, the average grant amount was about $16,000."

Mangham said while COVID-19 has faded in the news, many Oklahomans are still affected and still need help.

"After March 20, our portal will close and we will be unable to accept applications for that program,” added Mangham.

Applications are currently still open, but they will be closing on March 20. Homeowners can apply to the program at ohfa.org/haf.
