Lionsgate's film "Arthur the King" is teaming up with the Oklahoma City Animal Welfare to help save dogs.

OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) - Lionsgate's film "Arthur the King" is teaming up with the Oklahoma City Animal Welfare to help save dogs.

According to officials, the film's story follows an adventure racer and his journey after adopting a stray dog. Opening in theaters March 15, the movie shows if you adopt a stray dog, you might obtain a king as well.

The film is sponsoring the first 20 paid dog adoptions on Saturday, March 16, and the OKC Animal Shelter. Dogs 40 lbs. and over will have fees waived.

“We are excited to partner with Lionsgate on this event,” OKC Animal Welfare Superintendent Jon Gary said. “This movie shows that any dog, regardless of where they come from, is special and deserves an opportunity to have a loving home.”

Much like the stray dog in the film, Arthur, dogs at the shelter are looking for a chance to show that they can be good companions. Apart from finding a furry friend, the first 20 people to adopt a sponsored dog will get "Arthur the King" promotional items and tickets to see the movie in theaters, according to the shelter.

Also, a local photographer from OKKat Photography will be taking free photos of every pet after adoption from noon to 2 p.m. on March 16.

"Lionsgate’s sponsorship is a great opportunity for the dogs at the OKC Animal Shelter and the community to reach its goal and save 650 lives this month through adoption." said the city of Oklahoma City.
