Grandson shoots, kills 59-year-old grandfather in Midwest City
Court documents are shedding light on the heated moments leading up to an Oklahoma teen accused of killing his grandfather.
MIDWEST CITY, Okla. (KFOR) — Court documents are shedding light on the heated moments leading up to an Oklahoma teen accused of killing his grandfather.
A probable cause affidavit reveals the 15-year-old first thought about killing his grandfather six months ago, but Thursday was the day he decided he "had enough".
The shooting happened around 11:45 am in the Rolling Lane neighborhood near Northeast 10th Street and Air Depot Boulevard.
Irene Conner said she was working three houses down from where 59-year-old Rex Pellerin was shot and killed by his grandson.
"Like a firecracker pop," said Conner. "I saw all these cop cars like, oh my god and then I saw the yellow tape."
According to the affidavit this all started when the home-schooled teenager asked to eat lunch but was told to wait another 30 minutes.
The 15-year-old telling investigators Pellerin then yelled at him, called him a "fatty" and slapped him in the face.
"It's peaceful and so what happened the other day was nerve wracking," said Conner.
Court documents say the teen also told investigators his grandfather abused him, his siblings and his mother in the past.
The grandson telling police, "the only way to make sure he could not be hurt anymore was to kill Pellerin."
The teen later admitted to shooting Pellerin with Pellerin's own gun that he kept in his bedroom.
"I walked outside and I was like, oh my god, what's going on. They were trying to revive him and that was the scary part," said Conner.
The affidavit goes on to say Pellerin's roommate saw the grandson standing in the living room still holding the gun before calling 911.
When officers began questioning the grandson, court papers reveal the 15-year-old said, "I'm sorry that I did that to him."
"It was scary. I was nervous," added Conner.
The 15-year-old was arrested on a first-degree murder complaint. Because of his age, News 4 won't release his name until charges are filed.
