'It's pretty devastating': Strong winds cause damage throughout central Oklahoma

Severe weather swept through much of Oklahoma early Friday and caused dramatic damage to several buildings and trees.

STROUD, Okla. (KFOR) — Severe weather swept through much of Oklahoma early Friday and caused dramatic damage to several buildings and trees.

"We had some really strong winds and 30 seconds later it was gone," said Adam Chace, Stroud Assistant Fire Chief. "Our damage was localized to kind of one area of town."

Chace said the area near Main Street is where most of the damage took place.

"We had a small apartment complex here that consisted of about five units that had some pretty significant roof damage," said Chace.

The roof of the apartment building was torn off and is now in pieces.

Cody Paige is the owner of the five unit complex.

"It's pretty devastating," said Paige.

Paige said they just broke ground a couple of months ago and the roofs were finished only four weeks ago.

"Within the last six hours, it's kind of been turned upside down. Right now, we're just kind of numb to it," he said.

South of Stroud in Shawnee, residents began the day picking up the pieces as well. There was some rough damage, bent trees and leaning power poles.

Back in Stroud despite the damage, there's a feeling of gratefulness that no one was hurt.

"It's very unfortunate, but we were prepared. You know, living in Oklahoma you kind of have to be, especially this time of year," said Paige.
