29-year-old father shoots, kills 6-year-old daughter before turning gun on himself, Bethany Police say
BETHANY, Okla. (KFOR) — The Bethany Police Department identified 29-year-old Billy Feaster and 6-year-old Elizabeth Feaster, following a murder-suicide.
Bethany Police Officers rushed to a home near NW 42nd Street around 11:30 Sunday morning for reports of a father shooting his daughter shortly before shooting himself.
Authorities say Billy Feaster's father made the frantic call to 911.
"I need to have a police offer over my house, I think my son shot himself and his daughter," the 911 audio transcription said.
Chief John Reid with the Bethany Police Department said officers found their two deceased bodies in the backyard of the home.
The child's mother and suspect's sister were inside at the time of the shootings, according to police.
"This is an absolute terrible and tragic event, and I can't imagine the family I mean, this this hurts us deeply," said Chief Reid.
Authorities tell News 4 the family has been cooperative during the investigation.
Investigators stayed on scene for about five hours Sunday talking to neighbors and any witnesses, as they tried to piece together what happened.
"Any time a young child is involved in any type of event like this, it is a shock to everybody. I mean, you know, you can't explain it. There's just no way to explain something like this," Chief Reid said.
Police say they've made contact with Feaster in the past prior to this incident.
The motive behind the murder-suicide is still under investigation, with a full report from the Medical Examiner's Office expected in the coming months.
Chief Reid closed his briefing with condolences to the family.
"We're on the outside looking in and this is absolutely tragic for the family. Our thoughts and prayers are with that family," he said.
