Oklahomans take pride in celebrating the 4th of July
OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) — Many Oklahomans say the 4th of July is the most impactful holiday because of what it symbolizes for everyone in our country, freedom and independence.
We spoke with multiple generations of Oklahomans to hear how they celebrate the 4th and what it means to them.
"I'm more than excited," Bobby Matlock, said "I've been waiting for this day my whole life, like this is better than Christmas. Any other holiday, it just doesn't compare."
America's birthday is a holiday where Americans often celebrate with a colorful display of red, white, and blue.
"We can just have fun, spend time with family and friends," Dallas Johns said. "We can do fireworks and enjoy each other laugh and have fun."
"When you get like the 'hair of the dog' firework or even like, 'the mobile man', it's just, I can't describe it," Matlock said. "Words are hard to explain how great this holiday is."
Some Oklahomans are experiencing their first 4th of July.
"Her liking it and not being so scared, just loving it all because I just love it," Chasidy Darby said. "Being with family is the most important thing. So, I love that."
While the fireworks typically steal the show, we asked people what this holiday means to them.
"Just being with family all the time," Darby said.
"When we got our freedom and we celebrated," Kingston Johns said.
"It means everything, like it's just like, that's where the US started," Matlock said. "I mean, people need to know what where they came from."
It is also a time for friends and family to get together and celebrate their independence.
"We got to celebrate; this is America," Matlock said.
Regardless of how you celebrate, one thing is for certain, you have the freedom to celebrate however you choose.
Make sure to be safe and responsible so everyone can enjoy this holiday, as we wish America a Happy 249th Birthday.
"Happy birthday, America," Darby said.
