Former Eagle and Super Bowl champ Bryan Braman dies at 38, agent confirms
(WPHL) – Bryan Braman, a former defensive end for the Philadelphia Eagles and a Super Bowl champion, has died at age 38, according to his agent.
"Rest in Peace brother," former teammate J.J. Watt, who had played with Braman on the Houston Texans, wrote on social media Thursday morning. "Gone far too soon."
Sean Stellato, Braman's agent, said Braman had been battling a rare and aggressive type of cancer, ESPN reported. A GoFundMe fundraiser started for Braman's treatment and expenses in February indicated that he had undergone chemotherapy treatments and several surgeries, but the cancer had continued to grow "around his vital organs."
Braman had played with several teams over the course of his NFL career, including the Texans and New Orleans Saints. But it was during his second stint with the Eagles that the team defeated the New England Patriots at Super Bowl LII at the end of the 2017 season. The championship game was his last in the NFL.
"Today is a tough day that hits close to home," Philadelphia Eagles player Lane Johnson, also a former teammate of Braman's, wrote on social media Thursday morning. "I always admired Bryan’s ability to overcome life’s obstacles, his passion for the game, and the love he had for his friends and family. Rest in peace, Brother."
Stellato told ESPN that Braman leaves behind two daughters, ages 8 and 11.
The Philadelphia Eagles have not yet made a public comment.
