'You can't just take people's money and not finish the job': More stories emerge after fence scam
NORMAN, Okla. (KFOR) - Multiple people are coming forward with similar stories after Jeff Woods was scammed out of a fence job by Tim Wheeler.
Brad Jones and Josie Bullock say they paid Wheeler to do a job, but after he started it, he never finished.
Jones hired Wheeler to replace his fence at half the price companies charged.
"The first estimate we got was around $12,000. He came in at $6,000. He (said) worked for a fence company. So, we assumed he knew what he was doing and he was reliable. That was his day job," Jones said.
Jones was told it would be a three day job, but said it turned into 6 weeks. By then Only 85% of the work was done.
"He came maybe two full days over the six weeks. He was asking to get paid, and I was coming to the point where I would like to see it finished before I finished paying you," Jones said.
The job was never finished, and what was already up had to be fixed after pickets fell down.
Jones was is not alone in this, around the same time Bullock hired Wheeler too. This time it was to remodel a bathroom in a home the family just bought.
"He quoted me 1200. Once he got here, he was here the first day and never showed up again," Bullock said.
She was left with holes in the wall, a bathtub she did not pay for, and loose faucets that lead to water leaking behind the wall. Bullock says for a house with six people, and the only bathroom now unusable, it was a nightmare.
"It was horrible. When we have to drive around to 7-Eleven or drive to the Burger King down the street, just be able to use the restroom, and it was a lot," Bullock said. "Not being able to take a shower or having to put towels around the faucets that were leaking so that we could still try and get a shower."
Jones and Bullock have tried to take this to small claims court, but no one has been able to find Wheeler.
We went to his last known address, but the house was empty. We also called him multiple times today, but he never answered.
However, he is still posting on Facebook regularly.
