Family without AC after buying new unit; company promises to fix it
YUKON, Okla. (KFOR) – A family in Yukon has been without AC for more than two weeks and said they have been getting the run-around when it comes to fixing the problem.
Abby Greenback said she purchased a new AC unit, and since it has been installed, has had two failed inspections.
"I don't know what else to do," said Greenback.
She said her home has quickly warmed up as the summer weather arrived in Oklahoma.
"We're sitting at 81 degrees," said Greenback, commenting on the temperature inside her home.
She has two young children, one with medical concerns, and the family has been using portable AC units in their rooms as a temporary fix.
A month ago, Greenback said her family decided to replace their 30-year-old AC unit. She had a home warranty and asked to use a specific company.
"They said nope, you have to use whoever we provide," said Greenback.
She said she paid $3,700, and her home warranty company sent Perfect Climate Heating and Air to her home.
"That started out journey into over two weeks now with no air conditioner," said Greenback.
The new unit failed not one but two inspections.
"Every time they show back up, we just get more of this gray putty put everywhere," said Greenback.
News 4 called the owner of the HVAC company. The owner said he was frustrated because the family had not given him time to get the problems resolved.
"It can't happen the next day, and she starts calling everybody. I can't help the schedule," said Bill Edwards. "She keeps canceling on me. If she wants us to deal with it. She's got to let us deal with it.”
Edwards, who said he had 30 years of experience, believed the problem with the home was that it was flipped and the return air ducts were impacted since the house has a flat roof.
He said, regardless, he promised to fix everything listed on the inspection report on Thursday.
