38-year-old man arrested for allegedly raping elderly resident at Edmond nursing home
EDMOND, Okla. (KFOR) — According to court documents, 38-year-old Bobby Lee Boyd was arrested for allegedly raping an elderly woman and fellow resident of Edmond Health Care Center on 39 E. 33rd Street, Friday, July 25.
The family of the victim's roommate in the facility tells News 4 their loved one witnessed the incident, describing the act as "horrific" and "evil."
Myra Smith said her mother, whom their family calls "Memaw," reported the incident to staff.
"She said she went to the desk to tell them, there's a man in my room," Myra said.
An affidavit details an employee finding Boyd in bed with the victim, who is mentally disabled and non-verbal.
Documents also indicate Boyd, a double amputee, without his pants and allegedly caught in the act of raping the victim.
Myra and her husband Marty live in Missouri, but called the facility for answers the same day.
"They just wouldn't give any information. They just said it was an incident, an incident happened," Marty said.
They then called the Edmond Police Department.
"That's when we first initially found out about the rape. We have not talked to Edmond Health Care since then," Marty added.
The Smiths say their loved one has been living in the facility for one year, and moving their family member will be a task, but they're determined to get it done as soon as possible.
Myra said, "She just can't sleep at all at night. She's got bags under her eyes...it has affected her."
News 4 reached out to the Edmond Police Department for more information Tuesday morning and is waiting to hear back.
