Man accused of Holdenville home invasion and assault on couple now in custody
HOLDENVILLE, Okla. (KFOR) – Law enforcement agencies from several counties spent the day tracking down leads in an attempt to find a man accused of a Sunday night home invasion and assault. He was taken into custody on Monday in Seminole County.
Holdenville Police said Joshua Draper was wanted for busting into a home on South Oak Street and assaulting a man and woman. The man was stabbed and rushed to a local hospital, where he was in critical condition on Monday.
Officers said Draper was considered armed and dangerous.
"I've known the guy for a long time," said Brian Stephens, who lives across the street from where the attack happened.
Stephens said he had just pulled up to his home Sunday night when he heard a commotion.
"I came up front to help my mom get some stuff in the house, and they were screaming, coming from the front door," said Stephens.
He said he heard someone yelling for help.
"We seen lights and we came up here and he was laid up in the driveway with the ambulance around him," said Stephens.
Police said Draper pulled up to the neighborhood on his motorcycle. They said that after the assault, he left on the bike before ditching it about a mile away off Main Street.
Officers have yet to confirm the motive behind the attack, but Stephens said the three were involved in a love triangle.
“[Draper] was in jail when they started seeing each other,” said Stephens, referring to the two victims inside the home.
Draper has a long list of prior arrests, including one from last year for domestic abuse. He was recently released from prison.
District 22 District Attorney Erik Johnson told News 4 that his drug enforcement task force issued a search warrant for Draper Sunday night.
"We've got good cooperation with law enforcement in Hughes County," said Johnson. “We anticipate he will be in custody soon.”
There is currently no information on what charges Draper might face, as that will be up to the district attorney. News 4 will keep you updated.
