Fatal collision with semi-truck claims life of Woodward County EMS driver, multiple injured

OAKWOOD, Okla. (KFOR) — A Woodward County EMS ambulance driver died, and several others were injured, in a crash Thursday afternoon while transporting a patient to an Oklahoma City hospital.

The ambulance was on its way to Oklahoma City when it collided with a semi-truck along US Highway 270 near Oakwood in Dewey County.

According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, at around 3:15 p.m. on Thursday, the ambulance was traveling eastbound on US Highway 270 while the semi-truck was traveling west. The westbound lanes were closed due to construction, and traffic was diverted to the inside lane going east.

The ambulance was said to have crossed the center before striking the semi-truck and rolling onto the passenger side.

The driver of the Woodward County EMS ambulance, identified by OHP as 55-year-old Jeffery Jones, died at the scene. A crew member and a patient inside the ambulance were injured, including the driver of the semi-truck.

Three people were transported to local hospitals for their injuries. There is no information on their conditions at this time.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.

Woodward County Commissioner Clint White took to Facebook Thursday night regarding the deadly crash.
