Scammers impersonating OKCPD demand money from victims
OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) — The Oklahoma City Police Department is warning its residents of a recent scam where individuals are using their phone numbers and acting as the department to target innocent Oklahomans for money.
The department says they have received several reports on Friday concerning scammers who are using its phone numbers to target residents and intimidate them with false claims to send money for the following reasons: a warrant for their arrest, missed jury duty, or fabricated legal issues.
OKCPD wants to remind people that they will never demand immediate payment over the phone, and they will never ask for you to pay fines or bail through gift cards, wire transfers, or cryptocurrency.
If you receive a call similar to this, where they act as law enforcement officials and demand money, it is a scam.
