Oklahoma County Detention Center on 3rd Jail Administrator of the year

0

OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) — There have been three Jail Administrators for the Oklahoma County Detention Center over the span of nine months. The latest leadership shakeup is leaving many people wondering what happened.

The year began with Brandi Gardner as Administrator of the detention center. She stepped down in February, with Paul Timmons assuming the position of Interim Administrator.

On Monday, Timmons resigned, with Tim Kimrey chosen by the Oklahoma County Jail Trust to replace him.

The leadership shakeup has to do with an investigation into a "threat of workplace violence," that happened on August 14, but we don't know what the threat was.

Pastor and Trust Member, Derrick Scobey, told News 4 on Wednesday, "Any time an investigation has been done and then on the other side of that, someone is terminated and another person resigns, I think that tells everybody what they need to know, that it certainly was something significant."

The incident even led to the firing of Chief Operations Officer Greg Couch.

Couch sent News 4 a statement, denying any wrongdoing.

I was recently made aware of an allegation connected to my departure from OCCJA. The allegation is false and does not reflect who I am or the values I have lived by in both my personal and professional life.  I am proud of my 35-year law enforcement career. I know the truth will come out in time, and I will address this matter through the proper channels. If I decide to respond further, I will do it at a time and date of my choosing. To those who know me and are supporting me, I am deeply grateful.

Critics have argued that problems with the jail and its leadership are only getting worse.

Pastor Scobey even mentioned dissolving the jail trust in June, but did not introduce the motion to do so.

News 4 did reach out to Timmons for comment and hasn't heard back.

As far as the ever-changing leadership goes, Pastor Scobey recommends that the Jail Trust consider having a dual leadership role.

In this scenario, one person would serve as the CEO and another individual would serve as the Jail Administrator, so that all duties aren't on the shoulders of just one person.
