Thunder open Power Her Forward mentorship program, inspiring female basketball players

OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) — The Oklahoma City Thunder has rolled out applications for its six-month mentorship and empowerment program, Power Her Forward, which is aimed at inspiring the next generation of female leaders.

The initiative is used to connect female high school basketball players with local influential role models, and also helps freshman and sophomore players build up their confidence, develop leadership skills, and strengthen their ties within the community.

Power Her Forward seeks to encourage girls to stay involved in sports and make a long-term difference.

“Power Her Forward is one of the many ways the Thunder is ensuring that representation of women in sport is visible in our community,” said Michelle Matthews, Thunder director of Fan Development. “We want to inspire these athletes, instill confidence, and provide space and resources for these young women to lead their communities.”

The program will conclude in March with an in-game presentation, celebrating Women's History Month.

Applications are open now through Thursday, October 2. If you would like to nominate a female high school basketball player for the Thunder's Power Her Forward program, click here.
