Supt. Fields has no plans to distribute Bibles in classrooms

OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) - State Superintendent Lindel Fields announced on Wednesday that he has no plans to distribute Bibles or a Biblical character education curriculum in Oklahoma classrooms.

"We plan to file a motion to dismiss, and have no plans to distribute Bibles or a Biblical character education curriculum in classrooms. If resources are left to be allocated, the timing is fortunate since the team and I are currently reviewing the budget." said Supt. Fields.

This comes after former Superintendent Ryan Walters pushed for Bibles and Bible-based lessons for Oklahoma schools. The "God Bless the USA" Bibles placed in classrooms would include the Constitution as well as religious teachings.

Walters submitted his resignation to Governor Kevin Stitt on September 30, stepping down from his role as State Superintendent. Fields was sworn in as superintendent on October 7.
