Thunder fans bring the energy for opening night
OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) — Your defending NBA Champions, the Oklahoma City Thunder took the court to tip off the NBA season Tuesday night.
Fans poured into the Paycom Center to cheer on their team, as they watched the ring ceremony and banner get lifted into the rafters, cementing their championship in history.
"Obviously super excited right now, first game of the season," Halle Gotico, Thunder fan said.
"I feel great, man, energy is awesome," Grayson Baker, Thunder fan said. "Just like game seven in the finals. There was no break. Feels like we're right back."
That championship feeling was coursing through the arena.
"I got a lot of people who live in a lot of other places, and I got to talk a lot of trash," Irwin Wyatt, Thunder fan said.
Fans wanted to make sure they were in their seat for the ring ceremony and to see the championship banner get lifted.
"When that banner goes up, a tear might drop, you never know," Baker said.
So, they hurried inside, grabbed their food and drinks, checked out the latest merchandise being sold, and found their seats.
"I actually made this jersey during the playoff series, so I'm super happy to be here," Gotico said.
It felt like a playoff atmosphere before the game, but fans say that is just who "Loud City" is.
"My ears ring every time," Baker said. "It's like when you just feel the whole stadium rise. It's awesome."
There is added pressure as defending NBA champs, because everyone is looking to take your spot at the top.
However, fans have high hopes for a repeat and say "Loud City" will once again bring the energy.
"I think 82-0 is still in the cards," Baker said.
