Curbside Flowers installs colorful display filled with OKC Thunder pride
OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) — Exciting things are happening across the city ahead of the Oklahoma City Thunder's season opener!
At the southwest entrance of the Paycom Center, you'll find a colorful display filled with Thunder pride.
"Everybody knows the letters now all over the world, they know OKC, OKC, right?" said Gayle Maxwell, Thunder spokesperson.
Now that famous chant is in full bloom.
"We are going to be filling these six-foot-tall letters with greenery and with orange, blue and white flowers, and so it's going to just be a thunder explosion out here," said Ranya Forgotson, Director, Curbside Enterprises.
Curbside Flowers partnered with local artist Kristian Kelly and the OKC Thunder to bring the project to life.
Maxwell says it's all about giving back to the fans who show the team so much love.
"They always bring the energy, they always bring the love, they always bring the support, so if there are activations that we can do around the community to reciprocate that, we want to do that," said Maxwell.
The display goes beyond beauty. Curbside Flowers employs people transitioning out of homelessness, so beyond every flower is someone working toward a new beginning.
"Homelessness can be really socially isolating, and so when your community invites you to be a part of something so special, like the Thunder and this huge win that we just came off of, I think that that's amazing," said Forgotson.
The display will be out all night long, and you don't need a ticket to the game to enjoy it.
