Oklahoma City unveils new signage at airport, interstates to celebrate the Thunder's NBA Championship
OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) – Oklahoma City unveiled its new signage spread out across the city, marking the Thunder’s 2025 NBA Championship.
"It's kind of our last chance in the moment to really celebrate this championship,” said David Holt, mayor of Oklahoma City. “We didn't want to miss the opportunity to leave some legacies, some permanent legacies behind."
The City said it has placed 14 championship banners throughout Will Rogers International Airport.
"I think you'll be able to catch that reminder that this is a championship city, no matter how you leave the airport," said Holt.
Holt, who showed off the new signage dressed and ready for Tuesday night’s season opening, came at the Paycom Center, said an additional “city limits” signs were placed at six locations entering Oklahoma County at different locations along three major interstates.
"It is something that should be front and center for the millions of people who enter Oklahoma City," said Holt.
The following signs were installed around OKC:
- Northbound on Terminal Drive so travelers can see it as they leave the airport.
- At the OKC limits on I-35 north & south
- I-40 east & west
- I-44 near SW 149th Street
- Westbound I-44/Turner Turnpike at Luther Road
"This is part of our brand now here in Oklahoma City,” said Holt. “Of course, what better way, what better day to debut these commemorations than here on Thunder Day, as we unveil our banner, our permanent Championship banner in our downtown arena, as well as the players getting their rings."
