House Democratic Leader suspends a representative amid ongoing investigation
OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) - House Democratic Leader Cyndi Munson on Friday released the latest update regarding the ongoing investigations into House Democrat Representative Ajay Pittman.
Rep. Ajay Pittman, D-Oklahoma City is facing calls for accountability after the Ethics Commission filed a lawsuit and accused her of fraud on last week.
Pittman had reached a settlement agreement with the Oklahoma Ethics Commission in 2024 over multiple violations of campaign finance rules. She was ordered to pay $35,000 in fines and reimbursements.
The lawsuit filed revealed more than that.
Allegedly, Rep. Pittman paid $5,000 in August of 2024, and in January 2025, she had submitted a copy of a check for $2,500.
However, recently, the commission found that the check wasn’t actually paid into the campaign account she was supposed to pay it to.
Earlier this year, a complaint was filed with the Oklahoma Ethics Commission alleging Pittman had not reimbursed campaign funds. Last week, the Commission voted to launch a formal investigation and to prosecute Pittman in Oklahoma County District Court.
Pittman has been placed on suspension pending the outcome of the ethics investigations:
She has been suspended from these activities:
- House Democratic Caucus membership and activities
- All assigned House committees
Republican House Speaker Kyle Hilbert stated that Pittman had been removed from her Tribal-State Committee
Oklahoma House Democratic Leader Cyndi Munson, D-Oklahoma City, released the following statement in response to the alleged misconduct by Rep. Ajay Pittman, D-Oklahoma City.
“While we maintain that everyone is innocent until proven guilty, the allegations regarding Rep. Ajay Pittman are severe enough that action was warranted. The House Democratic Caucus has voted to temporarily suspend Rep. Ajay Pittman from House Democratic Caucus membership and activities pending the outcome of an investigation from the Attorney General alleging misconduct. The Oklahoma House Democratic Caucus also recommends to the Speaker of the House that Rep. Ajay Pittman be suspended temporarily from all assigned House committees, also pending the investigation being conducted by the Attorney General. Unless there is another development, we do not plan to comment further on any ongoing investigations into Rep. Ajay Pittman. The House Democratic Caucus remains committed to accountability and transparency for all elected officials and we will continue to focus on serving all constituents and solving problems for everyday Oklahomans.”
