Elementary students get free coats for colder weather
OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) — As the colder temperatures arrive, it's the time of year when some students in school receive donated coats. Friday, 380 coats were given to students at John Glenn Elementary, which means every student got a new jacket.
Students beamed with excitement as they got their new coats. They picked their favorite color to wear or decided to match with friends.
"I'm so excited. I think for winter I'm going to wear this coat because I love it," one student said
"The team's very excited to be here and, you know, getting to help out, you know, people that may not be able to purchase coats this year," said Tim Wyrick, the Assistant Senior Manager at FedEx Oklahoma City.
The giveaway is in partnership with the national non-profit Operation Warm and FedEx Cares.
"We work with the school and Operation Warmth to bring in the right amount. So that way every kid leaves in the jacket," said Wyrick.
As temperatures will soon drop, students now have an extra layer of warmth this winter.
"We're very excited, brings a real warm feeling to us. We're just happy to be here," said Wyrick.
Saturday, Operation Warm will be giving out hundreds of new coats in from 8 am to noon at the May Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram in Chandler. It's first-come first first-served. There will also be food trucks, kid games, and a petting zoo.
