A ruptured pipe in a dorm on OSU's campus leads to multiple issues

STILLWATER, Okla. (KFOR) - Some Oklahoma State University students are forced to move out of their dorms after a pipe burst and flooded their rooms, but one student says this is not the only problem.

Students in Allen Hall on OSU's campus say hot water was coming from the ceiling and light fixtures.

A hot water pipe ruptured in Allen Hall at OSU, Video from Miah Kucinski.

This is what students witnessed Thursday night as water flooded the hallway and the rooms.

"We heard the alarms going off and we thought there was a fire," said Addison Crawford, a resident in Allen Hall. "There's about an inch of water. So all the carpet and walls and ceilings are pretty much ruined."

OSU says the pipe failed shortly after a planned water outage and repair. OSU Police reported two people were burned by the hot water.

"I've experienced a lot," said Miah Kucinski.

Kucinski was forced to move out overnight after her dorm was flooded.

"I got evacuated last night at 1 a.m. and was told where my new living situation was at two in the morning," said Kucinski.

However, she says this is not the only problem she has dealt with since moving in.

"This isn't the first time I've had a water issue in my room," said Kucinski. "We've had a leak in my bathroom before, and they thought it was just the people from upstairs, but in reality, it must have been the pipe."

On top of flooding and forced eviction, Kucinski says the problems keep piling up.

"We have a crazy mold issue going on in my room personally. My vent was just completely full of black mold," said Kucinski.

OSU says they are not aware of any mold problems inside the dorms, but Kucinski says she has reported it.

"All they really tell me is that they're not any form of mold expert, so they cannot help me," said Kucinski.

Around 1 pm on Friday, OSU's Head of Housing, Mike Hunsucker, arrived at the dorms for a walk-through. Kucinski says she met with Hunsucker to have a one on one meeting.

She says she has reported the mold again during the walk-through.

In a statement to News 4, OSU says:

During cleanup, many different checks occur to ensure the building and rooms will be back and ready for occupancy. This will include moisture checks and air quality checks.
