Oklahoma woman arrested for DUI while taking son to little league practice

0

MIAMI, Okla. - An Ottawa County mother on her way to dropping her son off for Little League football practice attempted to outrun law enforcement officers after being stopped for traffic violations.

Betty Jo Brown, 38, of Miami, is charged with aggravated drunken driving, along with seven other felonies ranging from possession of drugs to traffic violations and eluding police.

Online court records show that she appeared in Ottawa County District Court in Miami on Friday and was ordered to return to court with an attorney on Nov. 24.

Brown was stopped on Oct. 21 by a Northeastern Oklahoma A&M police officer, after failing to stop at a stop sign near the campus and continuing to drive on M Street, exceeding the 15 mph speed limit, according to an arrest affidavit.

After initially refusing to stop for the NEO police unit, Brown finally pulled over but repeatedly declined to provide the law enforcement officer with her driver's license and proof of insurance and then fled the scene of the traffic stop. She was eventually stopped by Oklahoma Highway Patrol troopers several city blocks away from the college campus, according to court records.

Brown's speech appeared slurred, her eyes were bloodshot, and she was very argumentative and later admitted to having been drinking. She later refused to have blood drawn to measure her blood alcohol level, the affidavit states.

Arrest records state that drug paraphernalia and marijuana were found in Brown's vehicle. Brown's vehicle had a broken windshield, and her license was suspended.
