Infant Crisis Services adds extra visits for families amid government shutdown
OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) – With the government shutdown and SNAP benefits expected to run dry in just a few days, many Oklahomans are worried, especially those with babies and young children.
"It's just so sad that it's right before Thanksgiving, so it does make me want to cry, but we'll get through it," said Destiny Scott, Oklahoma City mother.
Infant Crisis Services is expanding help to make sure no child goes without the basics.
"We want to do what we can to help relieve the pressure of not being able to feed your babies and toddlers," said Miki Farris, executive director, Infant Crisis Services.
Infant Crisis Services will offer extra visits above the regular four per year, for all children under age 4 starting immediately through December 23.
"We used up our four visits, so when I read that, I was like, oh my gosh, yes," said Scott.
Each baby or child will receive a week’s worth of essential items free of charge.
"There will be probably people who have never used our services, but are working for the government and aren't being paid," said Farris.
Farris says there are no barriers and all are welcome.
