Video shows moment EMBARK bus driver runs over man
OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR)— We are now seeing the moments an EMBARK bus driver allegedly ran over a man who later died from his injuries.
The driver told investigators he thought the man was drunk, so he refused to let him board.
Court documents say after the driver refused to let the man on, the man fell into the road, and was then run over by the bus, but the driver never called 911.
This happened earlier in October near Hefner and Western in NW Oklahoma City.
Police identified the driver as 26-year-old Cameron Cunningham.
According to court documents, Cunningham told investigators Steven Thomas was stumbling and appeared to be drunk, which is why he refused to let Thomas get on the bus.
He says Thomas had his hands on the bus when he started to drive away, causing him to fall under the bus and onto the road.
As Cunningham drove off, the bus runs over Thomas.
Court documents detail Cunningham then called his supervisor, but only told him a man fell into the road and looked to be injured.
Cunningham allegedly did not explain the severity of Thomas' injuries, and did not call 911.
His supervisor then called police, but due to misinformation, investigators say emergency crews showed up to the scene as a non-emergency call, not getting to the victim until 30+ minutes after being ran over.
Thomas later died at the hospital.
We reached out to EMBARK about the incident.
We are aware that the Oklahoma County District Attorney has filed charges against an EMBARK bus operator involved in an incident that occurred on September 10, 2025. This incident involved an EMBARK bus that was in a collision with a pedestrian near Hefner Road and Military Avenue. The pedestrian was transported to a local hospital by EMSA, where he sadly succumbed to his injuries. Our hearts go out to the family as they navigate this incredibly difficult time, and we express our sincerest condolences. We have been cooperating fully with both the District Attorney’s Office and the Oklahoma City Police Department in their investigations. The employee has been placed on administrative leave in accordance with company policy. For any further details or comments on the case, we will continue to defer to the Oklahoma City Police Department and the Oklahoma County District Attorney.
Warrants were issued last week for Cunningham on charges of second-degree manslaughter and leaving the scene of a fatality accident.
As of Friday, he still has not been arrested.
