Fire Department responds to mobile home, RV fire in Lafayette
LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) A Lafayette man lost everything when his home burned to the ground Tuesday morning.
Firefighters arrived at the one hundred block of Amite Drive and found a mobile home, RV and several piles of trash burning.
The man who lives here has been living in this home for over 40 years, and he says he lost everything.
"I was by the airport, and I saw smoke. They told me my house was on fire, and they got the firetrucks and everything. My house is gone, and everything in my house is gone. This is what I worked hard for. I don't have anything now," 57-year-old Trent Romero said.
He says all he knows is that a fire started outside.
"Somebody had a fire going, and it caught onto the trailer," he said.
Within just a few minutes, his childhood home was gone.
"I didn't know if I wanted to look at this and see it, but now I'm really looking at it and seeing it, how really bad it is," Romero added.
"I don't know if I should be upset or what I should do. I just know I ain't got nothing, but I'm a survivor. I'm tough, and I'm going to deal with it I guess. I'm going to do what got to do."
He's now living in his neighbor's shed until he can figure out where to go from here.
"I don't have no insurance, nothing. So I'm just going to start from scrap. I don't know what I'm going to do.
I have no way to know what to do at the moment. What do you do when you have a situation like this?" he questioned.
