Abbeville police capture man wanted in attempted murder investigation while investigating separate shooting
ABBEVILLE, La. (KLFY) -- A 19-year-old fugitive wanted in connection with an October attempted murder investigation was arrested Tuesday while officers were investigating a completely unrelated shooting of a juvenile who had just gotten off a school bus.
BUS SHOOTING
At around 2:50 p.m., Abbeville Police responded to a shots-fired call near the intersection of Schlessinger Street and Maude Avenue. A male child who had just gotten off a school bus was found with a gunshot wound. The child has not been identified due to his age.
Early Wednesday morning, Abbeville Police Lt. Jonathan Touchet said that a suspect, also a juvenile, has been arrested for the shooting and charged with two counts of attempted first-degree murder.
Because of the ages of all involved, Touchet said no further information is being publicly released at this time.
POLICE FIND UNRELATED SUSPECT
In the midst of Tuesday's investigation, however, Abbeville Police say they located a suspect wanted in a completely unrelated crime.
Jha’Juan Campbell, 19, of Abbeville, had been wanted in connection with an Oct. 11 shooting in the area of N. Bailey Street and Oak Street
Police say Campbell was seen by police while they investigated the shooting of the child who had just gotten off the bus. Campbell was taken into custody without incident and booked on a warrant charging him with two counts of attempted first-degree murder.
He was transported to the Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s Office Jail where he is being held pending a bond hearing.
