One injured in Monday shooting on Lena Street
One man was injured in a shooting on Lena Street, according to Lafayette Police.
LAFAYTETTE, La. (KLFY) -- One man was injured in a shooting on Lena Street, according to Lafayette Police.
LPD said they responded to a the 100 block of Ancelet Street in regards to a shooting around 3:49 p.m. on Monday. Officers said one male victim was found with multiple gunshot wounds. He was taken to a local hospital, and is in stable condition.
Officials said a preliminary investigation revealed the shooting occurred in the 100 block of Lena Street, and the victim then traveled to the 100 block of Ancelet Street following the incident.
With multiple shootings this weekend, Corporal Ken Handy says there has been in increase in crime in Lafayette, and nationally.
"Its obvious you have a rise in crime period with the shootings that have been happening, but its not just Lafayette and its not particularly Lafayette, its the nation the crime rate is up nationally," said Handy.
Handy says it is tragic to see people's lives impacted by gun violence and sends his condolences to the families involved, as well as the community.
"Its a sad event anytime violence is committed from one person onto another person because both those lives are impacted by that type of violence and then you have to extend the impact to the families that are involved as well and even furthermore the community itself," Handy explained.
