10 people evacuated from apartment fire in Lafayette Parish Friday night
There were no injuries.
LAFAYETTE PARISH, La. (KLFY)-- Firefighters had to evacuate 10 people from an apartment complex Friday night because of a fire in Lafayette Parish, according to the Scott Fire Department.
At 8:54 p.m., firefighters were sent to the 400 block of Herbert Road in the Ile des Cannes Apartment Complex, and once they arrived, a resident in a second story apartment said there was a burning smell then she noticed smoke coming from her apartment ceiling.
The SFD found a fire in the attic then evacuated of 10 occupants with the help of a Lafayette Parish Sherriff's Office deputy. Firefighters rapidly tamed the flames.
The attic portion of the bathroom and kitchen in the apartment sustained moderate fire damage. The other three apartments in the fourplex were not damaged. A dysfunctional heater ventilation bathroom fan was the cause of the fire, according to fire officials.
There were no injuries.
