Louisiana man arrested, charged in connection to Jan. 6 attack

An Ascension Parish man was arrested and charged in connection to the Jan. 6, 2021 attack, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office of the District of Columbia.

BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) - An Ascension Parish man was arrested and charged in connection to the Jan. 6, 2021 attack, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office of the District of Columbia.

Edward Richmond Jr., 40, of Geismar was arrested in Baton Rouge on Monday, Jan. 22, the same day he appeared in the Middle District of Louisiana.

He was charged with civil disorder, entering and remaining in a restricted building or grounds with a deadly or dangerous weapon, assaulting, resisting, or impeding certain officers, disorderly and disruptive conduct in a restricted building or grounds, engaging in physical violence in a restricted building or grounds and violent entry and disorderly conduct.

The U.S. Department of Justice said, "According to court documents, Richmond traveled to Washington, D.C., from Ohio with a group of approximately nine other individuals who planned to attend the rallies planned for the day. Richmond wore a black helmet, goggles, shoulder pads, an orange two-way radio, and a Louisiana State Flag patch on his chest during the attack."

The Geismar man was seen on video in U.S. Capitol building surveillance footage. DOJ officials said he was also seen hitting law enforcement officers in that same area with a baton.
