Louisiana State Police investigating trooper-involved shooting in Avoyelles Parish
EVERGREEN, La. (WNTZ) - Earlier today, detectives with the Louisiana State Police Force Investigation Unit (FIU) were requested to investigate a shooting incident involving troopers. The incident occurred on Goudeau Road in Avoyelles Parish.
Preliminary information indicated that earlier this morning, Avoyelles Parish Sheriff’s Office (APSO) was notified of a subject committing criminal damage to property on Goudeau Road and verbally making bomb threats directed at his neighbors. As Cottonport Police Department Officers and deputies arrived, they encountered the male subject. During the investigation, the subject fled into his residence and barricaded himself inside. As a result, APSO requested Louisiana State Police to assist with the barricaded subject.
After Troopers arrived on the scene, they established communication with the subject to resolve the situation peacefully. During the interaction with LSP, the subject exited the residence, presented a firearm, and an exchange of gunfire occurred as a result of his actions. The subject was shot and sustained severe injuries. He was transported to a local hospital where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries. No law enforcement personnel were injured during this incident.
The scene was processed by Louisiana State Police Crime Lab Technicians and Louisiana State Police Detectives. They continue to work diligently in conducting a thorough investigation. Any additional information will be released in coordination with the Avoyelles Parish District Attorney’s Office.
