JENNINGS, La. (KLFY) – A former Sheriff's deputy was arrested on Friday on charges of payroll fraud.
According to the Jeff Davis Parish Sheriff’s Office, investigators discovered a former Sheriff deputy claimed work hours on his time sheets, involving off-duty details and filling in on open shifts, when deputies took leave for sick or vacation time. The false time claims occurred for several months in 2023 that he didn’t work or left the detail before its completion.
Brant Lee Duplechain, 38 of Jennings, was placed on administrative leave without pay during the investigation and resigned in January. Investigators determined the total of pay he received fraudulently exceeded $25,000.
On January 26, an arrest warrant for Duplechain was issued for public payroll fraud.
The investigation is ongoing currently.
