Baldwin Police Department sees significant reduction in crime rates

BALDWIN, La. (KLFY)-- The Baldwin Police Department is reporting one of the lowest crime rates in years. The crime had gone down significantly since Chief Anthony Gibson took office last year.
The department has implemented many initiatives to decrease crime such as increased patrolling in neighborhoods during the day and at night and identifying those involved in suspicious activity. Sergeant Joseph Garrison said the measures have reduced burglaries and break-ins.
"We got our patrol officers identifying people who was on the streets," Garrison said. "That reduces your burglaries and break-ins, so I would say that is on the down level."
Garrison said even with the shooting last weekend, the department has full control over the crime.
"We recently had a shooting but that's been covered," Garrison said. "That investigation is closed, but they stay on top of things as they happen."
Gibson advises residents to call the department if they notice anything strange.
"So far, everything's been working out so good," Gibson said. "Continue on calling my phone. Let me know things that's strange in your area. I appreciate it. Baldwin's a very beautiful town."
Gibson said the department will continue to work diligently to protect citizens and preserve peace in the town.
