YOUNGSVILLE, La (KLFY)-- A Youngsville family is excited about their seven-year-old son being a genius. Kingston Lawrence and his parents share how it feels to be a part of MENSA, a high IQ society.
Kingston Lawrence is a seven-year old kid who likes to play with Legos and build things. He says he feels like a regular kid, but with an IQ between 145 and 150, Kingston is anything but regular.
Compared to T.J. Henderson from the 1990's sitcom, Smart Guy, Kingston Lawrence scored in the 99th percentile on an IQ test that classifies his score as extremely high. His parents Deidra and Kala (kay-la) Lawrence say when they got the news, they were shocked.
"He's always interested in learning new things and trying things. And so it's just it's wonderful to see," said Deidra.
"My initial reaction was very nervous. I was just like, oh my god, what is this? What do you do with that? I didn't know it was that big of a deal. His that intellectual people who they have, you know," said Kala.
Immediately they began looking for resources beneficial for Kingston and came across MENSA. MENSA is the largest and oldest high IQ society for people scoring an IQ at the 98th percentile or above. And with Kingston scoring in the 99th percentile, he got accepted into MENSA and says he's happy to be a part of it.
"I feel really good," said Kingston.
Kingston says he enjoys math, robotics, building things and one day hopes to be an architect. Both Kingston and his family says being a part of MENSA is really cool, and he hopes to meet other kids like him.
"I thought it was pretty nice because this is probably the first of second class I've ever got into," said Kingston.
Deidra says she hopes Kingston can meet other kids with similar qualities.
"But I hope that he can connect with other kids that kind of have similar educational potential or intellectual potential, should I say, as him. And that, you know, you can kind of find people that he has things in common with and continue to grow and develop. So I'm excited about."
