Higgins appointed impeachment manager for Mayorkas Senate trial
Congressman Clay Higgins (R-La) has been named as an impeachment manager, should the Senate conduct an impeachment trial for the Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas.
LOUISIANA (KLFY) -- Congressman Clay Higgins (R-La) has been named as an impeachment manager, should the Senate conduct an impeachment trial for the Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas.
Higgins, who represents Louisiana Congressional District 6, is the chairman of the Border Security Subcommittee on the House Homeland Security Committee. Following a year-long investigation by the Homeland Security Committee, impeachment proceedings began in the House of Representative by Republicans in an effort to impeach Mayorkas.
After initially failing to get enough votes to impeach Mayorkas, House Republicans rallied and successfully impeached Mayorkas with a vote of 214-213 on Tuesday night.
The Democrat controlled Senate will likely reject the articles of impeachment passed in the house, but should a trial move forward in the Senate, Higgins will have an active role as impeachment manager.
