Pilot injured in Sunday plane crash in Patterson
An airplane crashed in Patterson Sunday afternoon, sending its pilot to the hospital, authorities said.
PATTERSON, La. (KLFY) -- An airplane crashed in Patterson Sunday afternoon, sending its pilot to the hospital, authorities said.
At approximately 4:25 p.m. Sunday, the Patterson Volunteer Fire Department, St. Mary Parish Sheriff`s Office and Acadian Ambulance were dispatched to the Harry P. Williams Memorial Airport in Patterson for the report of a plane crash. Upon arrival, firefighters reported that the plane was on fire. The fire was extinguished approximately 15 minutes after firefighters arrived on scene, authorities said.
The unidentified pilot, who was the sole occupant of the aircraft, was transported to a hospital and is being treated for non life-threatening injuries.
No additional information was released regarding the type of plane or cause of the crash. The investigation has been turned over to the Federal Aviation Administration.
It was the second reported crash in recent months from the airport. Two people were killed just after taking off from the Patterson airport in a crash on Oct. 12.
