ABBEVILLE, La. (KLFY) – Members of the community gathered at a blood drive on Wednesday to show their support for Larry Marceaux, who was involved in an accident at work and is now in critical condition.

According to Marceaux's family, he was working on a job site in Morgan City when a crane ball fell and crushed him. He now has broken bones, a broken pelvis, and his left leg is amputated. Arnold Romero, Marceaux's cousin, says he was in shock when he first heard the news. "It was pretty devastating because we're very close to him. He's our first cousin, he's more like a brother than a cousin to us."

Earl Fritz, another cousin of Marceaux, says Marceaux has always been dedicated to be the best father and husband he can be. He says his abilities are now limited because he is injured. "He's what every loving father or he's what every father or every loving husband or provider would want to be. That's all he wants to do and that's all he has been doing."

According to nurses with Vitalant, 26 people were registered on Wednesday to donate blood. I spoke to a donator who says he doesn't know Marceaux, but wants to help the family. "You never know when its your turn and you're next. It's freak accidents happening, that's unfortunately what happened to him, but it could be you next."

There will be another drive held at Carmichael's in Crowley on Thursday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
