Community members connect with first responders at Church Point event
CHURCH POINT, LA. (KLFY) -- Depot Park in Church Point hosted the town's first-ever First Responders Day, transforming the area into a vibrant celebration of service with local police, fire departments, and EMS participating.
The event was organized to strengthen community ties, especially with children, featuring games, giveaways, and a splash pad to help everyone cool off.
"We decided to throw a little emergency services family fun day for the kids," said Chief Thibodeaux, highlighting the importance of familiarizing children with emergency services equipment.
"A lot of time when kids see us it's high stress, scary events," explained Jason Fuselier, emphasizing the value of such community events in building trust.
Local first responders spent the day engaging with the community, particularly focusing on its youngest members. The event allowed children to explore emergency vehicles like ambulances and firetrucks, helping to demystify these services.
Chief Thibodeaux noted that the activities, such as picking up ducks and little fish, were designed to build trust with officers while providing fun and entertainment.
The day concluded with a friendly water fight between the Church Point Police and Fire Department, providing a fitting end to the festivities.
Jason Fuselier expressed hope that by familiarizing children with the equipment and roles of first responders, the event might inspire some to consider a career in emergency services in the future.
The First Responders Day at Depot Park successfully fostered a sense of community and trust, leaving both participants and organizers optimistic about future events.
