Family seeks truth after teen's tragic hit-and-run accident
BREAUX BRIDGE, La. (KLFY) -- The family of Da'Marion LaGrange, a 16-year-old from Breaux Bridge, is seeking justice after he was killed in a hit-and-run nearly two weeks ago in St. Martin Parish.
The incident occurred on LA 347, and the family claims that the information released by state police regarding LaGrange's death was inaccurate.
"Well, I'd like to see justice along with all my family members. They did not get information as they should have," said Diana Bernard, LaGrange's great aunt.
Bernard, who has been advocating for justice in her great nephew's death, expressed disappointment with the state police's handling of the case. She stated that initially, the family was not provided with any details surrounding the incident.
Bernard, who has a background in law enforcement, noted that her family had not received or been able to ascertain any information in a timely manner.
It was only after Bernard reached out on behalf of her sister and nephew, who raised LaGrange, that some information was provided, though Bernard claims it was insufficient and inaccurate.
Bernard refuted the police report that LaGrange's scooter did not have a light, asserting that the scooter was equipped with lights and reflectors.
"The scooter has lights in the front. A light in the front, directly in the front, two in the back, and two reflectors on the sides," Bernard stated. "I am disappointed because I expected more for my sister and more for my nephew."
News 10 contacted state police about the investigation and were told it remains active and ongoing, as more evidence becomes available.
