Local ministries launch 'Hand 2 Hand Combat' initiative
OPELOUSAS, La. (KLFY) -- Ministries from across Acadiana organized a prayer caravan in Opelousas, aiming to bring hope and resources to neighborhoods in need.
The event, known as 'Hand 2 Hand Combat,' took place in the Oil Mill area, where local churches and community groups collaborated to address issues such as poverty, violence, and addiction through prayer and support.
"We have to take a collaborative approach to address the vices of our communities," said Donavan D. Davis, a community activist involved in the event.
Minister Sarah Everson, director of Project Self, emphasized the mission to empower and encourage residents.
"We're coming to empower, to encourage, to actually let people know that God is still healing." Everson said.
Bishop Alfred Sonnier, who helped host the event with Cathedral Faith Church of God in Christ, highlighted the inclusive nature of the ministry.
"Any help that we can help you, filling out application for jobs, food stamps, or trying to get disability or whatever. We are there to help you." Sonnier said.
Organizers of the 'Hand 2 Hand Combat' event stressed the importance of taking the church beyond its walls and into the lives of those who need help the most.
The initiative is described as a symbol of unity and non-violence, with Davis.
"Some people take an approach of getting violent with the gun or getting violent with the hands or getting violent with your mouth. We choose to do it the kingdom way." Davis explained.
The prayer caravan plans to continue its efforts in other communities within Acadiana in the coming months, aiming to spread the message of hope and support further.
The 'Hand 2 Hand Combat' prayer caravan represents a community-driven effort to address social issues through faith and collaboration, with plans to expand its reach across Acadiana.
