NEW IBERIA, La. (KLFY) -- Myrtle Green, a tenant at an apartment complex on Prairie Avenue in New Iberia, says she's faced multiple issues since moving into her apartment in November of last year, and says nothing has been done.

Green, who lives with her children and boyfriend, claims that despite paying rent, the apartment's conditions have not improved, affecting their health and safety.

"It don't make no sense for people to live like this," said Green. "To know that we coughing up all this money again to pay y'all and nothing's not being done."

Green says they've dealt with black mold in their bathroom and cabinets, water from the ceiling that soaks their clothes and floors, and even pest droppings around the unit.

"It's been here a while," said Green. "The ceiling is not good and I just feel like it's not worth it."

She claims maintenance has come out to check out the issues, but says they never fully fix the problems. Green, who is also pregnant, says the smell makes her and her family feel sick.

"Every morning when I wake up I be congested and it's messing with my sinus issues or whatever I be congested full of mucus, gagging because it smells," she explained.

Now, Green says she's considering moving out for her family's health, though she believes the landlord has good intentions.

"I want to say Ben you are truly a good person, you have a good heart, you do work with us, but at the end of the day, our health and safety come first," said Green.
