Former police officer charged with manslaughter in Lafayette shooting
UPDATE, 8/23/25, 3:37 P.M.: According to police, Kyle Jagneaux, the suspect arrested in connection to the Lafayette shooting, was confirmed to be a former Lafayette police officer.
Lafayette Police Department said Jagneaux was no longer serving as an officer at the time of the arrest.
Kyle Jagneaux, 39, of Lafayette was booked into the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center on one count of manslaughter and has a bail set at $50,000.

UPDATE, 8/22/25, 10 p.m.: An arrest has been made following a shooting that occurred this afternoon in Lafayette, police said.
During the investigation, police identified the victim ,Phillip Francis Jr., 44, of Lafayette, was allegedly involved in an altercation with the suspect before the shooting.
As a result of the incident, police arrested Kyle Jagneaux,39, of Lafayette. Jagneaux was booked into the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center on one count of manslaughter, police said.
ORGINAL STORY: LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) -- A man has been shot and killed in Lafayette this afternoon, authorities said.
Lafayette Police are investigating the shooting that occurred today at approximately 2:20 p.m. in the 200 block of Hugh Wallis Road, where officers found a man dead.
No other details were released.
