LSU defense anchors win over SEC rival Florida
LOUISIANA, (KLFY) -- The LSU Tigers remain undefeated on the 2025 season with a 20-10 victory over SEC rival Florida on Saturday night.
Despite early setbacks, including the ejection of linebacker Whit Weeks for targeting, and a leg injury to his brother West Weeks, the Tigers' defense, led by Defensive Coordinator Blake Baker, excelled with five interceptions against Florida's quarterback DJ Lagway.
Dashawn Spears contributed significantly to the Tigers' defensive success with a 58-yard interception return for a touchdown, showcasing the depth of Baker's 'Bayou Bandits.'
The Tigers' offense, however, faced challenges, managing only 102 rushing yards, with Caden Durham accounting for 51 yards on a single play during the final drive.
LSU head coach Brian Kelly had a heated exchange with a reporter in the post-game press conference.
"We played the game to win the game," Kelly said.
Quarterback Garrett Nussmeier threw for 220 yards, including one touchdown and one interception, as the team struggled on third downs, converting only four out of 14 attempts.
Kelly defended the team's performance against criticism, emphasizing the importance of the victory over Florida and highlighting the team's strong record in night games.
LSU will look to improve its offensive performance when they host Southeastern in an in-state matchup at Death Valley on Sept. 20.
