Lafayette Regional Airport to get $6M grant to move taxiway
LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) -- Lafayette Regional Airport is about to get a major upgrade thanks to new federal funding.
The airport is slated to receive a grant of over $6 million to move a taxiway, according to a news release from the office of U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy (R-La.).
The money is coming as a result of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, passed in 2021 and signed by President Joe Biden. Cassidy was one of the cosponsors of the bill in the Senate.
The grant of $6,635,243 is earmarked for "shifting Taxiway B by 70 feet to bring Lafayette Regional/Paul Fournet Field into conformity with current standards," according to Cassidy's office.
It is part of a total grant of over $11.7 million to airports across Louisiana.
“Airports are critical to Louisiana’s economy, commerce, and tourism,” Cassidy said. “We secured this funding to make our airports safer, more modern, and ready to meet future demands.”
