More heat Saturday with a few shower chances
LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) - After a warm and humid start to the day, sunshine will help temperatures warm quickly. Highs reach the lower 90s and one or two storms will be possible. Quiet weather returns this evening and overnight where temperatures drop into the 70s.
In the tropics, Tropical Storm Gabrielle is finally starting to show signs of strengthening after battling wind shear and dry air. It will likely become a hurricane in the next two days, potentially even a major hurricane, as it passes safely east of Bermuda. Late next week, Gabrielle could bring impacts to the Azores. Elsewhere, a tropical wave south of the Cape Verde Islands will have a chance of development over the next week as it heads westward.
Locally, we will see summer stick around through the next week. Through Tuesday, rain chances remain low. By midweek, a series of disturbances will bring higher rain chances to the area which should help bring daytime highs closer to the 90 degree mark or even the upper 80s.
