Storm chances stick around into the new work week

0

LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) - Quiet weather returns overnight as temperatures drop into the upper 60s and lower 70s. A shower or two will be possible along the coast after midnight and through early morning. Monday will see sunshine mix with cloud cover through early afternoon allowing temperatures to climb to around 90. Storms develop during the afternoon once again to provide heat relief.

In the tropics, Gabrielle has strengthened into a hurricane and looks to continue strengthening over the next two days as it safely passes east of Bermuda. Gabrielle could briefly become a major hurricane by Tuesday before it starts to weaken and head east, eventually bringing impacts to the Azores by the end of the week. We are also following two tropical waves. The first has a low chance of development over the next week as it slides just north of the Lesser Antilles. It could bring impacts down the road for Bermuda, so we will keep a close watch on it. The second wave has a better chance of development over the next week and looks to move into open Atlantic waters, however, we will monitor it in case its path does change.

Locally, rain chances remain elevated through much of the week, with our best rain chance coming Thursday as a front slides through the area. Behind this front, drier air will lead to more comfortable mornings and daytime highs in the upper 80s into next weekend.
