Coroner releases autopsy results for Caleb Wilson
BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) -- The East Baton Rouge Parish Coroner's Office released the autopsy results for Caleb Wilson, a 20-year-old Southern University student who died in a hazing-related incident.
Results showed that the manner of death was homicide and the cause of death was commotio cordis. Wilson's autopsy was conducted on Feb. 27.
"Our condolences are extended to Mr. Wilson’s family and friends," the coroner's office said.
What is commotio cordis?
According to the American Heart Association, commotio cordis is a rare medical condition, and if a person is hit in the chest during a narrow window in the heart rhythm, it can cause cardiac arrest. It is not linked to underlying heart issues or disease.
According to an affidavit, Wilson was punched in the chest four times before collapsing and becoming unresponsive at an unsanctioned off-campus fraternity pledging ritual at a Baton Rouge warehouse. Police arrested three suspects in connection with his death.
