ABBEVILLE, La. (KLFY) -- An Abbeville man was arrested on several drug charges after a high-speed chase in Vermilion Parish Monday afternoon, authorities said.
Cody Zenon, 43, of Abbeville, is charged with the following:
- Aggravated Flight from an Officer

- Transactions Involving Proceeds from Drug Offenses

- Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon
- Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance in the Presence of a Firearm

A Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s Office Task Force agent initiated a traffic stop at 2:45 p.m., Monday, on a truck on Old Kaplan Highway that was registered to a wanted narcotics suspect, officials said.
According to authorities the driver, later confirmed as Zenon, failed to stop and fled the scene. Zenon traveled eastbound on La. 14 toward Kaplan, then proceeded northbound onto La. 343, where he drove through a construction zone and struck the side mirror of another vehicle.
Zenon continued westbound on La. 696 into Kaplan, then turned north onto La. 13, where he ultimately abandoned the vehicle, causing it to crash into a ditch. During the pursuit, Zenon’s speed exceeded 95 miles per hour, authorities said.
Zenon ran off but was apprehended by Task Force Agents with the assistance of a Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s Office police dog.
A subsequent search of Zenon’s person and vehicle revealed approximately $3,680 in cash and items described as "consistent with narcotics distribution." Agents obtained a search warrant for Zenon’s residence in Abbeville.
Investigators recovered a significant quantity of marijuana, several digital scales, various items of drug paraphernalia, broken suspected Oxycodone pills and a stolen handgun reported stolen from Lafayette. Zenon’s residence is located within 2,000 feet of a designated school zone.
In addition to the charges listed above, Louisiana State Police responded to the crash on La. 343 during the pursuit and charged Zenon with hit and run.
Zenon was booked into the Vermilion Parish Correctional Center and later released on an $81,000 bond.
