Local contractor wanted by Iberia Parish Sheriff's Office for alleged home builder scam
NEW IBERIA, La. (KLFY) -- Authorities have issued an arrest warrant for local contractor Donald Reboul, who is accused of taking nearly $100,000 from a family without completing the contracted work.
The homeowner, who wishes to remain anonymous, claims that Reboul, through his business Coastal Custom Builders, was paid nearly $100,000 to begin construction in May 2024. However, the homeowner alleges that Reboul failed to pay subcontractors, leading to liens on their home.
"We heard from him all throughout the process he was available, but then we stopped hearing from him once we received the second lien," the homeowner said.
The homeowner explained that after initial contact with one subcontractor, more subcontractors came forward, but they were not visiting the property. Instead, the family began receiving letters demanding they vacate the home due to unpaid subcontractors.
"Once we made contact with that particular sub, more subs started to come out, but they wasn't visiting the property, we started receiving letters in the mail to leave the home because subs weren't getting paid," said the homeowner.
The family eventually completed the construction in late 2024, but only after paying additional money to subcontractors to finish the work.
"We chose to finish the home and paid off some of the things that we had already paid him for, like garage doors, septic tanks, things of that nature," the homeowner stated.
When contacted by News 10, Reboul denied the allegations, claiming that the homeowner mismanaged her own funds.
"She misappropriated her own funds," said Reboul. "It was her loan, with her bank, not my loan. She still owes me in excess of $90,000 for the home."
The Iberia Parish Sheriff's Office confirmed that there is an active arrest warrant for Reboul and that the case is still under investigation.
The ongoing investigation by the Iberia Parish Sheriff's Office seeks to resolve the conflicting claims between the homeowner and Donald Reboul, as the family deals with the financial and legal repercussions of the unfinished construction project.
